WHATEVER YOUR SPORT, THE CORE IS CRITICAL
For maximum performance in any sport you need good core strength. It is the beginning and end of every movement. The core creates fast, powerful movements from the entire body with a reduced risk of injury. If you’ve never done any core exercises you might find them strange but you’ll come away from these exercises feeling a different kind of burning sensation in the abs. It’s a good feeling and amazingly these exercises will flat-line your stomach in no time. A good core is employed in even the most basic everyday functional movements, such as picking something up from the ground. For the sportsperson however, the core is vital. For example, in the swing of the golf club, a golfer must transfer stress from the back and shoulders to the core in order to control and perfect the swing and reduce the risk of straining. Whatever their sport, my clients tell me how much their sport has improved having conditioned their core. A well-conditioned core can change everything. Challenging all the planes of movement whilst holding the core muscles tight can have extremely positive effects on balance, co-ordination, strength, stamina, technique and performance.
